루치아노 파바로티 Luciano Pavarotti (1935 - )
카라얀에게 ‘카루소보다도 위대하다’고 절찬받은 세기적인 테너다. 데뷔 후 이탈리아
각지에서 노래하여 차츰 인정받으며, 해외에서는 1963년에 처음으로 암스테르담과 런던
에 초청되어 성공을 거두고 65년에 ≪리골레토≫의 만토바 공작으로 밀라노 스칼라
극장에 데뷔했다. 67년 밀라노 스칼라 극장의 토스카니니 탄생 100주년 기념연주회에서
카라얀이 지휘한 베르디의 ≪레퀴엠≫에 솔리스트로 선정되어 절찬을 받으면서 명성을
결정지었다. 68년에는 메트로폴리탄 오페라 극장에도 ≪라 보엠≫으로 데뷔하며, 이후
전 세계 오페라 극장의 오페라에 출연하고 또 리사이틀로도 활약하고 있다.
60년대 후반분터 「킹 오브 하이 C」로 불리며 빛나는 고음과 리리코 레제로의 감미로운
미성으로 급속히 평가를 높였다. 벨 칸토 오페라를 장기로 했지만 그 후 목소리의 변화
에 맞추어 리리코, 리리코 스핀토로 레퍼토리를 넓혔고 91년에는 처음으로 ≪오텔로≫의
타이틀 롤에 도전했다. 93년 한국을 다녀갔다.
